Moog Inc. was named a finalist in Fast Company’s Innovation by Design Awards for 2022 in the Sustainability category because Moog Construction worked with Doosan Bobcat to design a new generation, all-electric construction vehicle, the T7X. The award, which appears in the October issue of Fast Company, honors businesses solving today’s and tomorrow’s pressing issues.

For Doosan Bobcat, Moog Construction developed an intelligent machine electrification system including lift and tilt electric cylinders, electric traction motors, power electronics, electric vehicle control module, battery, and battery management system. The system’s integrated software acts as the brain collecting insights and intelligently coordinating actions across the machine while the all-electric actuators and motors provide the muscle. This, paired with the system’s connectivity, enables Moog customers like Doosan Bobcat to develop and deploy valuable automation functionality via over-the-air (OTA) feature updates. With Moog’s design, the T7X is a major step forward for the productivity, safety and sustainability of construction machinery worldwide. Doosan Bobcat realized Moog Construction could speed up the journey to reach its vision for an all-electric vehicle that was green and just as powerful as its diesel counterparts.

“Doosan Bobcat realized Moog Construction could speed up the journey to reach its vision for an all-electric vehicle that was green and just as powerful as its diesel counterparts.”

Moog Construction’s electric system design offers Doosan Bobcat:a fully electric track loader operating with zero emissions, reduced sound levels, limited vibrations and lower daily operating costs,a zero-emissions machine that uses only one quart of ecofriendly coolant compared to 57 gallons of fluid in its diesel/hydraulic equivalent model, anda lithium-ion battery and intelligent power management system supporting daily operations and automatically eliminating energy consumption when not needed.

The T7X all-electric machine is software-enabled like a smartphone; the vehicle owner can achieve faster, real-time updates and features. By reducing sound, operators can work longer yet safely while reducing noise pollution in neighborhoods and communities near construction sites.

According to Brendan Vaughan, editor-in-chief of Fast Company, the judges for the award include renowned designers from a variety of disciplines, business leaders from some of the most innovative companies in the world, and Fast Company’s own writers and editors.
